Artist Statement:

In Eastern thought, the state of the mind during creativity mirrors the mind during meditation.  The creative process for me has always functioned as a visual meditation - a way to clear my mind, to be free of any thoughts, to experience an open, quiet, and expansive creative space.  My work always starts with drawing to record the preliminary entry into a meditative space by mindfully filtering through experiences and daily life.  It is these felt experiences and knowledge cultivated through the senses that are the sources of my paintings and drawings.  I use simplified means of form, color, light, and reflection to create work where the senses are heightened, time slows down and quietness is palpable.  I paint to connect and express the senses as an alternative to the experience of a fast paced, technologically saturated culture.
